The staffers knew that it was urgent for the dog to receive medical care. They sent out their lead rescuer Donna Lochman to search for the dog. She spotted the pup right away but she knew it won’t be easy catching her.
The terrified dog ran away as soon as she saw the rescuer. She didn’t want to trust her because people betrayed and let her down too many times in the past. But while she made refused to come close, she kept her eye on the rescuer and she listened to her soft, soothing voice.
Eventually, the dog sat next to a car parked on the street. She trembled because of fear, but she decided to take a chance with the woman who was offering her help. She let the rescuer carry her into the car, and finally, she felt safe.
Donna named the dog Minka and drove her straight to the vet. When they managed to take a closer look at her injury, they realized it was deep and painful. They sedated her and then cleaned and disinfected her wound.
Minka is an incredibly sweet girl. Despite her pain, she smiles at her rescuers. She knows she no longer has to sleep in abandoned houses and dart between busy roads. She’s thankful that Donna came and pulled her out of the street.
This rescue dog’s recovery is not yet over. It may take weeks or months before her wound heals completely. But because she has a positive outlook in life, there’s no doubt she’ll get over her ordeal soon enough.
Minka deserves the best care and the rescuers and staffers at Stray Rescue of St. Louis promise to provide her everything that she needs to recuperate. They will nurse her back to health and prepare her for her new forever home.
