Owning a dog can need plenty of work, but the efforts can be worthwhile. If you wish to be the model dog owner, you need to do some simple things that can benefit your pet and ensure its well-being in more ways than one. You have to take your dog to the vet for regular check-ups, give baths to it and more with a lot of care. Here is how to be a dependable dog owner.
Take your pet to the vet
An annual check-up and initial shots for your dog are crucial. To protect your dog’s health, you have to schedule regular veterinary care. If you want to be a responsible dog owner, you must take your pet to the vet once per year at least. Get a checkup done and ensure that your dog stays updated when it comes to the shots.
Look for signs of health problems
Check your dog and find out whether it is exhibiting signs of a health problem. If you want to be a dependable dog owner, you have to constantly look after your dog and check whether its behavior has changed or it seems to be sick. To find out what is actually going on, you must schedule an appointment with the vet immediately upon observing signs of problems.
Groom your dog
Wash your dog and give it a bath with care, especially more often if it has long hair. Use a spray hose or a pitcher to moisten all the fur of the dog, although you must be careful not to get the areas around the eyes, ears, and nose wet. Massage a little bit of shampoo into the fur of your dog. Rinse all the shampoo out once you work the shampoo into lather. The water needs to be without suds and must run clear. Use a towel to dry your dog off.
Keep in mind that human shampoo should not be used on your dog, as it has a few ingredients that might be irritating to your pet. There are special dog shampoos available on the market.
Brush your dog
Brush your dog once a week if it has short hair. To avoid matted and tangled fur, you would have to brush it every day. Before moving on to a brush, remove tangles with a wide comb. When you are done with the brushing, give a treat to your dog.
